Pinch Valves are the ideal solution for isolating and regulating abrasive, corrosive and fibrous products. The Pinch Valve is being used more and more as an isolating valve or regulating valve for emulsions, sludges, dusts, gaseous materials, compressed air, powder, granulates, pellets etc.

There are two types/models of Pinch Valves:

Air operated Pinch Valves are supplied directly with compressed air/fluid
Mechanical Pinch Valves are actuated under force from a mechanism and actuator

Pinch Valves are characterized by a free flow of product, guaranteed because of the nominal passage of practically all pinch valve nominal diameters. Advantages of Pinch Valves include minimum frictional resistance and non-clogging.

The particularly robust, elastic fabric-reinforced Pinch Valve sleeve allows for successful working of Pinch Valves, even under extreme conditions. Pinch Valve sleeves prove their worth, particularly because of their long service life. For instance, if very abrasive media is being conveyed with a very high switching cycle frequency. A selection of nine different elastomer grades and different body/flange/socket materials ensures that Pinch Valves may be used practically without restriction in almost all industrial sectors. Due to its simple structure, air operated pinch valve represents a particularly low cost/economic shut-off valve solution, because a separate drive is not required for actuating the air operated pinch valve. In fact, only a 3/2-way solenoid valve or pilot valve is needed to control the air operated pinch valve.

The highly-elastic, air operated pinch valve sleeve shuts off the product flow with a 2-3bar differential pressure supply (depending on elastomer quality) and then moves back to the open position without being driven because of its great rebound resilience, once the pinch valve body has been bled.

Due to its very simple structure, air operated pinch valve is an extremely easy to maintain valve which can be repaired or serviced directly on site at the customer's with the aid of installation instructions.

Air operated Pinch Valves

The valve solution for isolating and regulating/metering abrasive, corrosive and fibrous products such as granulates, powder, pellets, dust and liquids containing solids, etc.

Air operated Pinch Valve Function:

Air operated Pinch Valve is supplying compressed air/fluid (minimum pressure difference 2 bar) into the air operated Pinch Valve casing compresses the sleeve, which is specially manufactured with high rebound elasticity. The body's design guarantees that the sleeve can close freely to form a lip shape. This ensures that the product flow is completely sealed off tight and that the sleeve is guaranteed the longest service life at the same time. This closes the air operated Pinch Valve and completely seals off the flow of the product. The maximum operating pressure is dependent on the nominal diameter and is around 2-6 bar. As soon as the supply of compressed air/fluid is interrupted and the air operated Pinch Valve casing is vented or drained, the specially manufactured sleeve is opened by its rebound elasticity/resilience, enabling the pressure in the medium to flow through the full passage

A flattened and elliptical casing design of all flanged pinch valves ensures minimum compressed air consumption. This results in energy savings and ensures a specified, lipped fold pattern to the sleeve of the air operated pinch valve.

This specific, lipped fold pattern ensures the complete sealing of the product flow. Even large solids are enclosed by the sleeve in the air operated Pinch Valve and are thus tightly sealed.

Valve Function:

The sleeve of the mechanical Pinch Valve is controlled by a mechanism inside the casing and an actuator of your choice. The mechanism comprises one or two pinch bars arranged horizontally above and below the sleeve, and is guided at the side by two rods. Mechanical Pinch Valves can be provided with various actuators.

The actuator causes the pinch bar(s) to pinch the sleeve horizontally (centrally, depending on the nominal size). This provides an effective seal on the flow of product. In addition, a direct connection between the sleeve and the pinch bar(s) ensures an optimum opening of the sleeve to provide the full passage. The maximum operating pressure of the mechanical pinch Valve is dependant on the type and nominal size, and is between 3 and 40 Bar.

Benefits:

The most important advantages of the mechanical Pinch valve include the free flow of the product, minimum frictional resistance and low maintenance and operating costs. A further advantage of the mechanical Pinch Valve is the reduction of the parts in contact with the medium, the sleeve being the only component in contact with the product flow.

In addition, deformation of the sleeve during the closing process causes any incrustations inside the sleeve to break away. This means that the mechanical Pinch Valve is a practically blockage-free valve solution. Furthermore, even larger solid particles are shut off by the sleeve, which is particularly resistant to abrasion and corrosion, hence shut off without leaks.

Versions:

Actuator variants available include manual actuation by means of a hand wheel or the automatic variant with double or single-acting pneumatic cylinders and electrical actuator drives. A wide variety of materials used in the casing and sleeve qualities open up a very wide field of application for mechanical Pinch Valves.

Maintenance:

The replacement of all sleeve types is quick and simple with the assistance of detailed fitting instructions, without the need for special tools. This is reflected in the very low maintenance and operating costs

The FR-F700 series is tailor-made for operating situations concerning water and drainage. At the same time they meet the various needs of the ventilation sector. They are also able to control other motor operations, such as blowers, centrifuges, certain types of compressor and scraping machines, to name a few.
All the functions that there applications demand are already built in. The built-in energy optimising functions mean that motor operations run at the lowest possible cost all the time!

Pumps and fans
The operating characteristics for these frequency inverters are specially adapted to suit such applications as pumps and fans. Naturally they can also be used wherever constant torque is required. Selection of torque curves is easily predetermined. In demanding operating conditions they can be specially adapted using a 5-point voltage/frequency curve.

Flexible PID controller
The built-in controller enables control of, among others, flow, pressure and level. The feedback in the process may consist of current or voltage signals. A SLEEP function supervises the need for control and switches off the frequency inverter where the need for it is low. As the need for operation increases, the motor starts up again.
A quick start function provides fast acceleration of the motor up to a predetermined speed, and when this is achieved the motor goes over to PID control. One can easily select manual or automatic operation.
Multi-pump operation makes it possible to manage many motors from one frequency inverter. In a pumping station, the system can for example be installed with four parallel pumps. The frequency inverter can control one motor at a time. If necessary a motor can be connected to mains power while a new one is controlled by the frequency inverter. All the logic is built into the frequency inverter.

Communications and networking
An RS485 interface is built in, with Modbus RTU as standard. Apart from traditional network cards such as Profibus, DeviceNet and CC-Link, the frequency inverter can be equipped with a network card for LONworks. The inputs and outputs of the frequency inverter can be used via a network to control external I/O (Remote I/O).

Beijer Electronics can offer network solutions for Mitsubishi PLCs with associated operator terminal applications. For each project there is a Quick start manual that describes installation, connections and application areas for the different programmed modules.

Energy-saving function
In almost all pumping and fan applications there is often a direct energy saving as soon as a frequency inverter is installed. Mitsubishi Electrics frequency inverters have built-in functions to further reduce energy consumption. OEC (Optimum Excitation Control) continuously optimises the motor magnetisation, which can generate savings of up to 10 %. Energy savings can be shown in currency terms directly on the frequency inverter display, or monitored via a network.

Catching rotating loads
When starting a fan, for example, it is not unusual for it to be rotating in the wrong direction due to air flow in the ventilation ducting. This problem is solved in such a way that the frequency inverter monitors the rotation of the motor when starting, to prevent jerking and provide a controlled start. Regardless of whether the motor is stationary, rotating forwards or backwards, the FR-F700 provides a gentle start in all situations.

Air-operated level gauge

Level gauge mod. Level-Start has been designed to monitor the activation level of electric pumps installed to raise the waste water produced in urban and industrial areas and animal and breeding farms. It has proved to be particularly reliable for heavy-duty work where incrustations due to grease or detergents, or false signals caused by surface foam obstruct the regular operation of other regulating systems. Level-Start can either be supplied installed in the control and protection panel of the electric pump or as a separate unit in a fiberglass reinforced plastic housing with IP55 protection to install along with an already existing control device. The pneumostatically transmitted measuring system has no electric circuits or contacts in the tank and is therefore also suitable for installation in the presence of gas. One probe is sufficient to regulate the levels of several pumps. Periodical maintenance operations to clean the floats are no longer necessary.

Seal Clean Flange Gasket out of ePTFE

AGRU and GORE (TM) developed an expanded PTFE gasket which is ideal for sealing of plastic flanges.
This new and innovative Seal Clean gasket combines the exceptional chemical resistance of pure PTFE with the excellent mechanical properties of expanded PTFE to provide very low leakage rates.

Due to its unique design, the seal exhibits outstanding creep resistance and uses minimised surface pressure. The new construction of the gasket, with a new innovative design guarantees optimal functions, which have not been seen on the market before.

Manhole Connection Socket - MCS

The manhole connection socket (MCS) out of the modern resin PE 100 offers by its integrated resistance wire the possibility of a tight welded connection of the pipeline with the manhole. In combination with the well proven puddle flange it results in a permanently tight manhole connection. It is possible to tightly join HDPE pipes according to DIN 8074/75 by welding.

The labelled barcode can be fed in with all universal welding machines. The integration of the manhole connection socket into the prefabricated concrete construction takes place in the concrete factory according to DIN 4034. The tightness of the manhole connection socket results from the assembled puddle flange. During the concrete backfilling a precast notch guarantees a tight connection in the wall. The manhole connection socket is provided with a stop which rounds off with the manhole inside and fixes the insertion depth of the PE pipe to be joined by welding.

The MCS is available in the dimensions 160 / 225 / 280 / 355 / 450 and 560.

Large pipes for water supply

HDPE piping systems are more and more used for the supply of potable water. Due to the improvements of the PE 100 material it is now possible to produce potable water pipes with blue stripes up to a diameter of 1400 mm. Besides the pipes in different pressure ratings, AGRU also offers a complete range of fittings as well as the suitable welding technology.

Pipes which are welded homogenously can easily adapt to changed embedding conditions res. ground settlements and offer a permanently tight piping system with a high life expectancy of more than 50 years. Furthermore this material is characterized by its resistance against abrasion and corrosion. Its root resistance avoids the congestion of the pipes during their whole life time because of the material-compliant and tight welding.

The used PE 100 material is approved acc. to international standards for the transport of potable water and has already proven worldwide. In comparison to other materials, HDPE has important advantages, e.g. high flexibility, low weight and good weldability.

“Organic Plug”

The fischer group of companies of Waldachtal presents its first prototype of an “organic plug” at the FAKUMA in Friedrichshafen. The material of the fischer Universal Plug UX consists of polyamide by DuPont which is mainly made of renewable substances.

UX with staying power

The fischer UX Universal Plug made of conventional nylon has been established in the market for many years, giving users the feeling of reliability and safety. With every turn of the screw, the plug tightens more and more – until it is safely expanded inside the drill hole or knotted inside the cavity. A true all-rounder, the plug gets a perfect grip in any wall, whether in plasterboard, solid bricks, perforated bricks or concrete.

Same retaining power as the standard plug

The “Organic Plug” is made of the Zytel® RS polyamide by DuPont, 58 weight percent of which consist of renewable base materials. “Extensive tests and long-term trials have shown that the UX made of this new material has the same values as the tried and tested product made of conventional nylon”, says Rainer Fischer, head of synthetics development at fischer. In continuous tests, the “Organic Plug” consistently shows the same retaining values as the conventional UX. Investigations involving the performance at high temperatures also show the same temperature resistance for both plugs.

The UX Plugs now shown at Friedrichshafen are the first prototypes presented to a wider public. “Our aim is not only to demonstrate that we can make plugs from sustainable and renewable materials”, says Rainer Fischer. “We also want to fathom out the market acceptance because the “Organic Plugs” can currently not be made with the same cost structure as the standard plug”.

Socket joints for ductile cast iron pipes and fittings

Buderus Guss ductile cast iron pipes and fittings can be supplied with different restrained socket joints. These are basically divided into restrained and non-restrained connections.

Restrained connections:

The restrained connections are divided into form-locking and friction-locking connections.
Buderuss Gussr form-locking connection is the BLS® restrained socket joint. BLS® stands for “Buderus Lock System”. The English word “Lock” thereby stands for the lock with which the BLS® restrained socket joint is locked together by means of the interaction between the preliminary chamber and the welding bead. This high-strength yet easy to install connection is suitable for even the most extreme application cases, allowing operating pressures up to 100 bar, depending on the nominal width. This also means high permissible tensile forces.
Not least for this reason, but also because of their deviation capability of up to 4°, ductile cast iron pipes with the BLS® restrained socket joints are also suitable for trenchless installation procedures such as burst lining procedures, horizontal directional drilling, press-pull procedures etc. Further areas of application include, amongst others, snow-making technology, fire-extinguishing pipes (FM approval received), turbine pipes, exposed pipes, inclined pipes etc.
Thanks to the comprehensive range of fittings, and the completion of the BLS® system by corresponding valves and flap valves and other specific accessories, this system is also ideal for the complete production of pipe junctions and intersections.
The BLS® restrained socket joint is available in the nominal widths DN 80 to DN 1000.

Buderus Guss friction-locking connection is the BRS® restrained socket joint. BRS® stands for “Buderus Restrain System”. The restrained locking is, in this case, ensured by the TYTON®-SIT-PLUS® ring, which can be inserted into every TYTON® socket. This means that normal TYTON® pipes and fittings can be used for the restrained arrangement of a pipeline.
The BRS® restrained socket joint is available in the nominal widths DN 80 to DN 600 (including DN 350). The permissible operating pressure is up to 32 bar, depending on the nominal width. Thanks to the deviation capability of the joint connection of up to 3°, the pipes, at a length of 6 m, can be laid in a curve radius of only 115

Non-restrained connections:

These include the TYTON® socket joint, the screw-socket joint and the gland-socket joint.
The TYTON® socket joint is found in practically every pipe and in most fittings. Proven over decades, it is not immediately apparent what the TYTON® socket joint does. Pipe systems with these proven connection joints remain tight even under high internal pressure, maximum decentring and external over-pressure, e.g. from surrounding ground water. This also applies if restrained forces or bending stresses occur due to traffic loads and ground movements.
Acting as a joint, the system follows the ground movements, without transmitting bending stresses to the next pipes or fittings. These properties are achieved thanks to the high form stability of the joints and their special design.
The TYTON® socket joint is proof against roots and can withstand high stresses; deviation of the connection by up to 5° is possible, depending on the nominal width.
